GS offers training and program development consulting on career development applications of the Strong and MBTI instruments. Judith (Judi) Grutter founded GS in 1978 with her husband and business partner, Bill Schatz — thus GS. Bill and Judi were living in southern California at the time — Bill at Cal State Los Angeles and Judi at Cal State Northridge. They kept their university “day jobs” all through the 1980s as they nurtured the training business. By 1990 growth of the business had forced a decision point: The security of academic employment vs. the adventure of a business partnership. Bill was the risk taker; Judi the planner — ENFP preferences and INTJ preferences described it pretty well. The joint vision was solid, they just needed to implement it. They also had a vision of where they wanted to spend the rest of their lives — Lake Tahoe. And so they jumped in.
They moved to Lake Tahoe and committed their full time efforts to GS. They launched the Strong Certification Program (it was called the Strong Qualifying Program then) with six participants for our first program in Tahoe. They got a lot of individual attention! For several years GS offered Strong “qualifying” in major cities all over the country, as well as Strong and MBTI application workshops. As travel budgets got tighter they put the Strong Certification Program online and then added the distance learning MBTI Certification Program. GS now only hosts and offers onsite and public Strong Interest Inventory Certification Programs at other institutions and organizations. It has grown from six to 30 participants over the years, and is a very popular offering. In 2014, GS moved its operations to San Francisco, more easily accessible and available for growth, but still holds public certification programs in a variety of locations across the country!
GS trainers are usually on the road delivering in-house Strong and MBTI training on college and university campuses and for organizations and government agencies all over the country.
We lost Bill, the “S” in GS Consultants, to cancer in 2004, but not before he saw his vision fully realized. In 2014, we also lost Judi, the “G” in GS Consultants to cancer, and we continue to work hard to continue the legacy and quality that GS Consultants has been known for since 1978.
We invite you to join the 12,000+ career development professionals who have been trained by GS over the past 40+ years, and look forward to working with you as you learn about the Strong and MBTI assessments.
